I once came across this post on Instagram that stayed with me:
Some trains arrive early.
Some arrive late.
Some glide through clear skies without interruption, while others seem to stop at every station along the way.
Yet nobody stands on a platform criticizing a train for taking longer to reach its destination.
Why?
Because we understand that every train has its own route, its own schedule, its own delays, and its own challenges to overcome.
But when it comes to our own lives, we often forget this.
We compare our beginning to someone else’s middle. We watch people get married, buy homes, build successful businesses, travel the world, earn promotions, or achieve milestones, and suddenly it feels as though we’re falling behind.
We become anxious when life doesn’t unfold according to the timeline we imagined. We question our progress when our journey seems slower than everyone else’s. We start measuring our worth by how quickly we arrive rather than by how far we’ve come.
The truth is, we are not all traveling the same path.
You didn’t begin at the same station as someone else.
You aren’t carrying the same burdens.
You haven’t faced the same obstacles.
You haven’t weathered the same storms.
So why compare your timeline to theirs?
What if you’re not behind at all?
What if your path is simply different because your destination is different?
Perhaps the pauses taught you lessons that speed never could. Perhaps the detours redirected you away from places you were never meant to stay. Perhaps the quiet seasons strengthened parts of you that success alone never would have touched.
Life has a way of teaching us through delays, disappointments, and unexpected turns. Often, the moments that feel like setbacks become the very experiences that shape our character, deepen our perspective, and prepare us for what’s ahead.
One day, you’ll look back and see that every stop had a purpose. Every delay carried a lesson. Every challenge added strength. Every season of waiting was quietly preparing you for the person you were becoming.
So keep going.
Even when progress feels slow.
Even when the road ahead seems uncertain.
Even when nobody notices how far you’ve come.
Your journey is still moving forward.
You are not late.
You are exactly where your path is unfolding.
And your train is still on its way.
